I am so glad I did this! I got so much more out of this (first session) than I thought. You were honestly so amazing to talk to and I am really, really looking forward to growing with your guidance.

I cannot recommend Louise's walk and talk sessions enough...Louise has found a perfect combination of providing quality support, while creating a comfortable environment to speak. I know that the sessions with Louise have changed the game in my life since our first sessions and in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits?

Walk and Talk Therapy has become increasingly popular worldwide and it is evident that it has many benefits.

  • Walking in the natural environment has been found to reduce stress and anxiety and improve mood.
  • Exposure to natural light can help regulate sleeping patterns.
  • Walking reduces blood pressure and your counselling sessions can inspire you to make other physical health improvements.
  • You set the pace and while our main focus is the therapeutic discussion, I will keep pace beside you.
  • You choose where the session takes place.

What should I wear and what about the weather ?

Wear what you are comfortable in and good walking shoes. We can adjust your appointment to the time of day that is best for you and take the weather into consideration. However, if you like to walk in the rain we can always take an umbrella! Jumping in a puddle or two can be very therapeutic!

What does it cost?

Sessions are currently $140 per hour and payment is due at time of session.  Contact me to find out more.

What will the first sessions be like?

It's not uncommon to be nervous about trying something new. Be assured that we can work through this and change can happen if you are willing to put some effort in.

When you call Walk Together Counselling I will answer any questions you may have and give you further details about how it all works.

In the first session we will have to do a little paperwork and start to unpack your story as well as talk about your goals for therapy.

What about confidentiality?

All sessions are conducted professionally and your privacy is taken seriously. We will discuss how to best to manage a chance meeting with someone before your first session.

I've seen a psychologist before and it didn't help. How is Counselling different?

As a Counsellor finding the right therapist is like finding the right Doctor, it’s important that you feel comfortable with that person, so that we can develop a good therapeutic relationship that supports you in moving forward. The benefit of working with a Counsellor, such as myself is that I don’t work under Medicare, so a mental health care plan is not required. This means it is not on your permanent health record and we have more freedom to tailor therapy to suit you.  You decide what you are ready to disclose at a pace that is comfortable for you. I use a very solution focused approach, so we often don’t need to delve heavily into the past.

How many sessions will I need before I feel better?

Feedback from my clients is that they usually feel lighter after the first session. The number of sessions required depends on individual circumstances and your commitment to change. Are you going to give me a label?  With counselling, I am not looking to apply labels or diagnose you, rather we work in a more relaxed way.

Do you prescribe medication?

Counsellors don’t prescribe medication, but I am happy to support you by working with your Doctor or Psychiatrist.

I'm nervous about booking a session, but I know I need help. Any advice ?

It’s is not uncommon to be nervous about your first session. It takes courage to reach out, but you deserve to be happy and I am here to support you and make the process easier.

Are you going to tell my family about what we discuss in our sessions ?

All sessions are confidential and any limits to confidentiality, as required under the law, are explained prior to your first session.

How do I know when I need counselling? What signs should I be looking for?

Do you find you are second guessing every decision?

Are you feeling stressed and anxious?

Do you believe life could be better, but you are not sure how to make it better?

Are you feeling confused about what you want for your future?

Do you find it hard to put yourself first?

Do you find you have re-occurring issues in your relationship?

-  These are some of the many challenges where counselling can help with.

FAQ continued

Can I refer my partner to you for counselling?

As much as I love referrals, it would be best for your partner to contact me.

Counselling is just talking. I don't see how that will help me.

Counselling helps you to find a different perspective on the issues you are facing and can often help you uncover the solution that is right for you.

Will I need to do homework?

It’s up to you, but many of my clients find that reflecting on what we have covered in session and experimenting with new techniques for coping helps them to feel better quickly.

How often will I need to come?

The majority of my clients attend fortnightly, however this is determined on an individual basis and personal circumstance.

How do I know you can help me?

The short answer is: You won’t! Until our first session, when we both meet, get to know each other and develop an understanding of how we can work together to achieve your goals. This will also depend on your level of commitment to change.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Suffering is one of the ways that we connect with others and it is not uncommon to find that many people have a similar experience.

Have you helped other women who feel this way?

Yes, I have helped many women, with all kinds of challenges. Being anxious and stressed is often the result of societal pressure, unrewarding relationships or trauma. It’s important for you to know that you don’t have to go through this alone, trying to figure it all out for yourself usually just makes the journey harder.
